Background and History of JASS

JASS was first established in 1988 by a group of Deaf and Hearing people who went to United States of America (U.S.A) to study for higher education and learned ASL.

JASS has since then been involved in various activities introducing ASL and American Deaf Culture in Japan.

JASS’ goal is to prepare members of the Deaf Community in Japan by teaching them ASL and American Deaf Culture to improve their chance of positive and effective interaction with Deaf Americans when visiting U.S.A.

JASS also provided cross-culture workshops between Deaf Japanese and Americans as well as conducting study tours visiting several cities in U.S.A.
