米国・ワシントンＤＣ（コロンビア地区）。
ご存知、ここはアメリカの首都であり、そして世界の政治、金融の中心です。ワシントンＤＣは、州ではなく特別区ですが、それに至った経緯や歴史をご存知でしょうか？
また、世界中のろう・難聴学生が集まる大学として有名なギャロデット大学がここワシントンＤＣに建てられたその理由は何でしょうか？そして、そこに住むろう者たちの生活。どこで集まってどのように交流しているでしょうか？
一度は行ってみたいワシントンＤＣとギャロデット大学。行ったことのある人もない人も、新しい発見があることでしょう。講師のおススメ情報も聞きながら、楽しくお話を伺いましょう！

講師：Meredith Peruzzi（日本ＡＳＬ協会ＡＳＬ講師（２０１２年度））
米国メリーランド州生まれ、ワシントンＤＣ育ちの都会っ子。
２０１０年、筑波技術大学にてＡＳＬ、英語アシスタントとして研修を積む。
世界唯一の聴覚障害者対象のGallaudet大学卒業。Deaf Studies（ろう者学）専攻。大学優秀賞受賞。
卒業後は英語対応手話／ＡＳＬ通訳などとして働いた後、日本ＡＳＬ協会のＡＳＬ講師として来日！

Hello! I’m Meredith Peruzzi. I’m now teaching ASL for JASS. Do you know where Washington DC is? Here it is! You know, Washington DC is the capital of the United States. It’s really cool – there is the White House, Gallaudet, it’s a big busy city! Have you been to Washington DC?
Did you know that Washington DC has one of the biggest Deaf communities in the world? It’s true, it has been there for over 150 years! Are you curious to know why there are so many Deaf people there? In Washington DC, hearing people meet Deaf people on a daily basis! Have you ever wondered what that would be like?
Of course, hearing, have many job opportunities in Washington DC. So do deaf people! There are many interpreters in Washington DC that are available for Deaf workers.
There are Deaf clubs, events, and activities…would you like to go bowling with Deaf people? You could see the Miss Deaf DC pageant! There’s Gallaudet Homecoming too, you could go!
There are so many Deaf people in Washington DC, that Deaf organizations decided it would be a good idea to be located there! The National Association of the Deaf is there, so is the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf!
And of course, Gallaudet is the famous Deaf university in Washington DC!
